My mom has been in Assisted Living for three days and she is doing remarkably well.

I feel it almost to be a miracle that she does not cry when I leave; not even a whimper; or when I call her on the phone we say goodnight and "talk to ya later" as I always leave it.

The resistance she put up in just the idea of going there and now she seems to be getting along just fine.

She's found many acquaintances from her younger years and old neighborhood that are residing there, and I think that has what really helped in the transition.

Of course, I could pop in tomorrow and she could be tearful; but so far, she hasn't mentioned home or wanting to go home or anything.

I can only believe that in her mind her new home, feels like home already. She certainly is more social now than she had been in several years.

I feel so blessed that my mom is safe and handling this extremely well. Maybe my Daddy is watching her from above  and helping me help her.

That's great news, and I too hope it lasts. My Mom found new friends at the NH when she first went. Her first room mate was so nice that soon it seemed as if they were old friends. They used to joke about what they would eat 'when we get out of here' - Polish sausages and beer.

That lady was later sent to another floor and Mom only saw her now and then when both were outside in their wheelchairs ... neither ever went home. Or, to put it a better way, both are at home now where they are. Soon Mom had her confused with another Ann whom she knew from way back when.

Right now my sister and BIL are visiting Mom in NY, and I am wondering what they will say, or how they are reacting to seeing her in her present condition....

Love,
Martha
