i'm just curious no one has told me i need one i'm just wondering. why take it out ?
wouldn't the other one just compensate anyway ? or if they are both damaged then what's the point ?
anyone know ?

It would just be a place for infection to set in and poison the body. I guess it depends on how damaged it is...sometimes they opt to keep a partially functioning kidney just as a "back up"...:)

Typically they only remove a non or partially functioning kidney if it is generating problems like infection or taking up too much room like in the case of polycystic kidney disease. It is a difficult surgery so they only perform it when necessary. A friend of mine had one of her pkd kidneys removed to make room for her transplant.
