View Full Version : carcinoma in situ vs. CIN III

I wasn't aware that these two conditions are one in the same. Now correct me if you think I am wrong, but doesn't that basically mean that I had cancer cells on the surface area of my cervix? My margins were clear after LEEP, so thats a relief, but I'm still showing abnormalities on the pap. I'm just wondering if the condition is as serious as I think it is.

HI

I asked my doctor this question today and he said that these two condition are completely different. CIN III (which I also had) is just in the spectrum of pre cancerous changes.

the carcinmor in situ, actually comes after the CIN III. Does that make sense?

thanks

Hi,

Carcinoma in situ is cancer that hasn't spread beyond the tissue in which is started, in other words, it is non-invasive. It hasn't broken through the basement membrane and invaded the surrounding area, but if not treated, it can progress to invasive cancer. CIS is classified as Stage 0 cervical cancer.

CIN III is dysplasia; the cells are pre-cancerous. There is also a greater probability of CIN III lesions becoming invasive cancer if not treated.

CIN III and CIS are normally classified together since they are both non-invasive, but they are not the same.

I had CIS also and had laser vaporization surgery for it in May. My first post-surgical Pap was normal, and I'm currently anxiously awaiting the results of my 6-months post-op Pap which was done November 6 (the card the nurse gave me says wait 10 days to call to get my results. It's been 10 days, but it still says my results are unavailable. The suspense is agonizing!)

Hang in there, okay? My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Hugs,

Lisa

I have adencarcinoma in situ and plan to have a conization in the hospital on Jan 9th. I am freaking out big time that it has become invasive. I have read that there is a 10% chance that it could become invasive in less than a year. My pap was abnormal in Jan but before then they've all been normal. Point is.. is that this came on so fast! and I am so scared. I wished the leep would have cleared all the borders:( Does anyone have any adivse for me? I had the leep 3 weeks ago and my bleeding finally stopped yesterday. I think I am healed and I want the surgery now! Should I call the doctor and beg for them to do it sooner?!?!
