Well, everybody experiences different medications differently. I spent 15 years drinking to self-medication for OCD and extreme social anxiety disorder. Paxil is blessing. The only side effects I had was (prior to Paxil CR) that my tongue would be very sore for months. About a year ago, I finally discovered that it was causing me to dehydrate severely in my sleep. So, I take my paxil in the morning, but at night drink plenty of fluids -- stopped the sore tongue problem.
For me, Paxil is not effective for anxiety at all. Great for OCD / Repetitive thoughts, social anxiety though. For anxiety, a supplement of xanax, valium or klonipin is very effective for the anxiety symptoms. Betware, the three I mentioned all have their side effects --- so I would really do some research on medications engineered specifically for anxiety.

Hey there,
I was on Paxil for a few yrs and then recently became depressed. My Dr switched me to Lexapro, which helps some with the depression. I did not realize just how much the Paxil helped to control my anxiety, until I went off it.
While it never completely took away my anxiety, I seemed to control it a good bit.
So I think you doctors switch to the Paxil is a good one.:)
I hope your are feeling better soon,
JB

I am taking paxil and it has helped me immensely. I take 10 mg now. I started with 20 and it made me anxious feeling and I would wake up at night and not be able to get back to sleep. It does make me tired, and if I miss a dose it messes me up a little. It takes away my appetite, etc. As long as I take it regularly though it has helped immensely. I will take these side affects over dealing with the OCD thoughts. And, it has helped the anxiety a bit too. I do have valium though for extreme anxiety situations.
