Just when i thought i was doing well my back and buttocks are agony!!!
Have been only to sleep propped up on the sofa as i carnt lie on my back or my sides and even walking has become abit of a hassle.
Saw the doc yesterday an i am already on co-codamol,diclofenic,diazepam,gabapentin and now have added morphine and amitripyline.
It has been difficult taking the full dose of everything as i work from home and as you probably know yourselves the tablets make you tired but at the moment i would rather be out of pain!
I hope my pain settles down soon.

Sherry, Don't you just hate that, when the pain returns and you haven't done anything to cause it. That buttock pain feels like someone is back there trying to lift me up with their fist. I can feel it clear up to my head. Then the final straw is when the doctor just throws another med out. I hope you get some type of relief soon.

Im sorry, SHerry. I know how you feel & how frustrating it is to feel fairly well, then to suddenly be hit with pain again, it's awful. I hope you find some relief soon

Sherry. .I don't know your exact story but I am in the exact same place. Had surgery Oct 8th. The pain was unbearable for maybe 3-4 weeks, then it became tolerable, and now I am at a place where everything hurts. I think it's a mix of increased pain and building a tolerance for vicodin.
I envy you with your pain meds. My doctor won't really give me any. I beg for vicodin. He thinks I should be off the meds already or very soon. I need to call him and just beg for something more or stronger. In the hospital I was given dilaudid, which I hear works, but they didn't/wouldnt give me enough to help and when I left I was given percocet for maybe 2 weeks, with a few days of valium for the muscle spasms.
I don't know who else is in California or Los Angeles, but does anyone else have the problems with pain meds that I do? I got my surgery done at one of the best hospitals in the country (Cedars Sinai) and I feel like I am being treated like a criminal for being in pain and no one is doing anything to help me!!!
Sorry for going off on a rant. I guess I needed to vent a little bit more. I really just meant to tell you Sherry that I know how you feel and I know how unbelievably frustrating it is!!!

Hi Sherry - I feel your pain I too have that horrible pain in the buttock and down my leg. I've had 3 back surgeries, 1st one was a lami/disc, 2nd they removed L4 L5 and replaced with titaniuam cages with BMP, still in extreme pain. Said I needed 3rd surgery for L3 L4 but when they went in found a fragment probably left from last surgery pressing on nerve so they removed it.
I am still in extreme pain in the buttock and leg! I take vicoden, vallium and oxycottin. In the hospital they gave me the diladiad drip which I could give to myself when needed. When I came home the pain started again.
I hope your pain goes away and you find relief I will keep you in my prayers.
Hang in there, thats all we can do...

Sherry, so sorry that your pain is back. I just pray that maybe it's due to weather change, that it's nothigng serious...
I know how horroble pills make you feel, I am so tired from feeling this way too, but than I think how lucky we are that we do have them when we need them badly, right?
I hope you will better soon!
Best wishes to you and hugs.

Let me get this straight... your doctor is saying you should be off pain meds completely after 4 weeks from a fusion???? (you did get a fusion, right?)
Tell him he is insane and camperboy says so! Seriously try to talk to someone else at the hospital, and see if you can bypass this sadistic person. Maybe he just has that much confidence in his operating ability, but still... Sheeeez!
I really don't know what it is about doctors that makes them think that just their voices will soothe the pain away!
Pain sucks!
Take care,
David
PS I hope to God your new pain is just temporary, Sherry! Let's hope so!

I am still on Norco 10/350's, and I am over 2 years out. My doctor does lecture on decreasing the meds from time to time. When he gives out the same prescription he does notate that I have chronic unrelenting pain and that it does warrant the prescription. I think they are afraid that they will get in trouble for these meds. My doctor only has a class 3 for meds. I can't stop them now and sure couldn't have gone off at 4 weeks. I just had the surgery pain and saddle anesthesia then. I'm in California. I know they put the pressure on the doctors and insurance companies to get people off prescription meds, but 4 weeks, that's crazy.

I am currently 7 or 8 weeks post op, but at my 4 week appt, my doctor did want me to basically be off meds. I had a 2 level anterior/posterior fusion. I run out of vicodin tomorrow and I am so scared to ask for more meds. I'm just so sick of "sucking it up"

I had the same surgery. Now I need a second one to finish the first one. There were issues they couldn't get to after the hardware went in.

Sherry my dear, I so hate to hear that you are suffering day in and day out. Why can't we just be the sucess stories instead? They do exist, just not for everyone unfortunately. I have been sent to a new pain management doc who is looking at changing all of my meds. I really like him (thank goodness) and he has other approaches he will try once my pain is under control. I hope you will find the same. I will say extra prayers for you tonight!
