View Full Version : Remember Where Your Safe Zone Is These Holidays

Many of you will be out and about these holidays visiting family and friends, shopping, etc. Some of you may occasionally have urges to escape and go anywhere but where you are. Don't allow these thoughts to linger. Your safe zone is right there where you are...with yourself...in the present moment!

Of course, easier said than done sometimes, but letting those thoughts of your safe zone being somewhere else is leading you down a path of anxiety and less enjoyment of your life. Start cultivating an "I am my safe zone" mentality. Best wishes to you these holidays and beyond. Steve

Many years ago when I was in therapy for anxiety, my therapist told me to picture that my safety zone was contained in a beautiful box. And the best part was....this wonderful box would travel with me wherever I went. Any time I felt anxious, I could simply lean back and the box would be there to surround me in calming comfort. I used that thought many times and it definitely helped me.

Happy Holidays.

Hi Steve-

I really like this thought. I remember you posting this earlier, and I've actually used it a few times! I recite to myself, "I am my safe zone." It is really hard sometimes, but I think that it helps. Thanks so very much for sharing this!

You're all welcome.

Angel, I remember a time when it was really hard also. Stay with it and it will become easier with time. Take care, Steve

I, too, have used your little "helper" tip, when totally engulfed in anxiety.
Thanks for your words of wisdom.
They're very much appreciated.
