I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus about 3 years ago. It's a scary diagnosis, but, from what I have read, most people with Barrett's do not get cancer. I read online that aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen may significantly lower the risk of esophageal cancer for those with Barrett's (type "Aspirin Barrett's Esophagus" in your search engine on the internet to read more about this). Cdurg, I hope your husband is sleeping with the head of his bed elevated or on a special pillow that elevates his upper torso. It is so important not to lie down for at least 3 hours (preferably 4 hours) after eating. You may want to do some research online about Mastic Gum. It could help his stomach heal, which hopefully would slow down the reflux into his irritated esophagus. He may want to try drinking aloe vera juice 2 or 3 times a day, maybe 2 or 3 ounces or so. If he can't handle it straight he could mix a little lemon juice and possibly a little honey with it. Honey is healing also. You may want to check into Probiotics, digestive enzymes and acidophilus. I believe digestive enzymes are very important. Vitamins E & C are antioxidants and important for all of us. If overweight (which I am), he needs to lose weight. It's important to eat smaller meals.
