View Full Version : Weird rare occurence of no hunger

This is something thats happened to me twice my entire life, few months apart since I changed my diet back in May 07.

Its been a while, but Ive never even heard of anything like it, let alone found any info on it. It also didnt last long enough to alarm me.

Basically for a period of one to two days, I can hardly eat anything (like less than 400 calories a day) when Im normally eating 2-3,000 calories a day.

I am not hungry in the least bit, and the thought, or smell of ANY kind of food, makes me slightly nausetious (spelling).

During this time I usually managed to force down a small amount of fruit without throwing up but thats about it for either a day or two.

Also during this time my stomach feels a little "off" but thats it, i wouldnt even call it a mild stomach ache.

Like I said its been a while, and I have no idea if it will ever happen again or not, but it totally perplexes me and is something Id like to understand.

As for history, I have never had any kind of stomach problems or eating disorders, nor has any family member I know of. I am in great physical health and shape.

In may of 07 I cut out all animal products except wild fish (eaten once a week or so) from my diet, no meats, no dairy, no eggs. I do it for health reasons, animals are great but I have better things to do with my time.

My diet consists of mostly fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds/oils, some whole grain, and the once a week wild fish dinner. I eat very little proccessed food, and stay far away from hydrogenated oils/high fructose corn syrup etc...

I also practice proper food combining which seperates starches/protein, and fruit is always eaten alone and on an empty stomach. I also try to eat mostly live and organic foods. I dont remember eating anything specific before these 2 instances either.

I also have exercised every day for months now, and recently got my personal trainers cert. My workouts are not intense though (I do mostly aerobic cross training every day). Im not really sure if the exercise has anything to do with it but figured Id mention it.

The only idea I could ever come up with was my stomach making further adjustments to my diet which was drastically different that what I have eaten my entire life.

any and all thoughts/comments would be appreciated

It could be anything. Could be a minor stomach bug, could be stress, could be something your body decided not to like for the moment.

As long as it only lasts for a day or two, and you drink water, it probably isn't dangerous, unless it's happening frequently. You might want to skip or go easy on exercise until your appetite comes back.

I remember as a kid I had a time once, lasting just 2 days or so I think, when i just didn't feel hungry and didn't know why. It was really weird.

(Then suddenly one night I felt ravenous and had to go down to the kichten and get a crust of bread.)

It sounds like you have some nausea too though?
Could really be a bug.

Oh. Just reminds me. early this year I had some kind of bug (heard of other people having it too), it lasted for a bout a week: Very nauseous after eating. Not throwing up, but felt like it.

I have the same problem sometimes.

It's weird.

There'll be no changes in my exercise or diet, and randomly just the thought of food makes me sick. For a couple days the most I can do is drink broth and even then...

And then on the flip side there are days when I can pack away more food in one day than it seems my stomach could physically hold and I STILL am hungry.

I wish I could offer more than my assertions that you aren't alone in this...I'm curious as to what causes it myself...
