Hi everyone.
I just got back from a late Thanksgivng dinner held at the home of my son in law's parents. They postponed it until today because their son, my son in law, is a nurse and worked his usual 12 hour shift on Thursday.
Well, his Grandma was there too, as usual. She is now 92 or 94 (she isn't sure) and recenly was taken to the hospital with sirens blaring- heart failure - and speaking to the ambulance attendant only in the Amish dialect of German which she grew up with, although hasn't spoken for 70 years.
At the hospital they stabilized her and now she is in her new assisted living apartment where her son picked her up today for this dinner.
I said to her, "L, I am so glad you are well again and out of the hospital!"
She said, "I have always been well! I have never been in a hospital! I was born at home and I will die at home."
She has no recollection of being in the ambulance, hospital, all the tests, and changing from her old 'independent living' apartment to her new 'assisted living' one.
I noticed all through the meal she made inappropriate or irrational remarks, and didn't answer anyon's questions very clearly. It is so sad to see .. until recently she had been amazingly lucid. Someone told a story about her departed huband, my son in law's Grandpa - he always used to say, "I only like two kinds of pie: Hot, and Cold!" She said "Who said that?" "P, your husband." "Who?"
This must be old age dementia such as my Mom has.
Good that they already have her in a good safe place.
Love,
Martha
