Hi I've been having ear aches off and on for quite sometime now. The doctors have checked my ears, but there are no signs of infections. Now it's gotten to the point where even water from the shower irritates them. The doctor told me that it could be my allergies causing these, but my allergies have not been bad in a couple of weeks so I don't think that this is the problem. Why am I having this problem? Thanks! :)

It could be allergies but since you notice it more with water in the ear it sounds like it could be swimmers ear type of irritation. You can either buy a ready made swimmers ear product at your store or make your own with rubbing alcohol and water and try that. Also since water irritates it more you will want to pick up some ear "plug" wax that you put into your ear when going in water so that you don't get water into your ears and irritate them more.

i had the same problem, persistant earaches and the pediatrician said nothing was visible. she sent me to an ENT where i got an MRI and they found a deep infection that ate away one of my hearing bones and made a hole in my eardrum, i got surgery to fix it and he made a prosthesis out of cartiledge and the hearing loss is minimal. i had a 2nd surgery to make sure everything was ok. yea it was invasive but it was worth it in the long run.

P.S. if it wasnt said in my last post, try going to an ENT (ear nose and throat) ;)

The doctor told me that I have a very small amount of fluid in my right ear. I don't get it.. why didn't she notice something before? The area around my ears and a little on my jaw is kind of tender also. Weird.. Anyway, I appreciate all of the responses! Thank you! :)

My ear aches, and wax build up, and congestion cleared up after I cut down on dairy products. I still eat yogurt regularly, but only small amounts, occasionally, of anything other milk products.

Since they did find some fluid in your ear then that needs to be treated. If your doc isn't doing enough for you then see an ENT doc. I am surprised your doc hasn't referred you to one already.
