a girl I have been dating told me about her herpes afer she had performed oral sex on me numerous times. she said she has had it for 8 years and has an outbreak maybe once a year at the most. So now what? Should I go in and get tested or do I have to wait 6 months to find out if I am infected now? I was told that asymptomatic transmission happens like 5% a YEAR for sex in a partner not showing signs of an outrbreak, is it lower for oral sex? I am not sure how to go about our sex life now, of course a condom for sex but what about oral sex?

also, she told me it was genital herpes, does this mean she doesnt have oral herpes, or is it the same thing?

If she has genital herpes, she cannot give you herpes via oral sex. Don't worry.

Genital herpes does not shed in the mouth.

Oral and Genital herpes are separate.
