We are thinking of having Rebecca's VNS removed. It has been in for 10 years. Battery is no longer working and we don't feel it made a difference for her. Has anyone had one removed and if so, what was that experience like for you? Kindly, Paula

If it was the model 101 (first version) the wires (leads) will remain but the device itself will be removed in a same day surgery just as they installed it. Faster in reality due to not having to place the wires this time.
Due to the scarring over on the nerve there is no real way they can remove the wire thats up by the neck from the first technique. This may have changed with the 102.
My friend had the 101 early (shortly after it came out) and had it replaced with the 102 when the battery was starting to get low. He said it was a quick procedure.

Thanks Travis. Rebecca has the first model. We won't be replacing it. Keppra seems to be doing a better job at this time.
Although it (VNS) hasn't caused her any complications, we don't want it to remain in her body. She is very thin. When she falls, she had had bruising on it since it sticks out. We are always trying to keep her safe as all of you know. Hope the VNS works for everyone trying it out there. Definitely worth trying....kindly, loving Mother to Rebecca
