Question for a friend. He had surgery as a child, and the scar is over his very lower abdomen, above part of the intestine that now blocks basically every time, very painfully. This has been lifelong.

Has anyone heard of such a complication? And can it be fixed? I suspect there is scar tissue that for whatever reason presses on the intestine there or is even attached to it. Seems such a thing could be corrected. Seems an exploratory laparotomy could determine exactly what is in there. Just been doing a bit of reading and strikes me maybe my friend doesn't have to suffer all the time.

Anyone here have any thoughts or experience on this, or leads to the correct terminology so that I can at least refer to this type of problem properly? Obviously, he needs to go to a doctor, but we always like to go prepared with some info.

Yes, you are right about the scar tissue. Adhesions can form after having surgery and can even become life threatening by blocking the bowel.
