I am several different vitamins and supplements which I had been getting from my nutritionist/pharmacist who owns her own shop. All of them are costing me over 150 a month and that is just way out of my affordibility. My mom has always received her vitamins from Puritan's Pride so I decided to check <them out>. Most of what I take, they do not have - such as the live probiotic nutrients. But they did have a couple that were SOOO much cheaper. Different brands and types of course. So I am wondering...how do you know if you are indeed getting decent supplement? One of the things I can switch is instead of the $35 a month Coral Calcuim/Mag Complex...I can get a $7 Cal/Mag Citrate. Instead of the $40 Pure Fish Oil Liquid...I could get $7 Fish Oil Caps with the same EPA/DHA. Instead of $18 Vitamin D3 liquid...I can get $4 Vitamin D3 Capsules.
As you can see, the price difference is HUGE. Is this because the cheaper stuff isn't as good??

The price difference is huge!
Last year when researched the market I had to make a database
in the spreadsheet so I can analyze the costs.
I also subscribed to a place that does supplement testing and
what I saw tested was pretty good. They tested some known
brands and some obscure brands and for the most part, everything
isn't too bad. If a product failed most likely the measured dose
per pill was exactly as advertised but the good news is that there
wasn't any 'scam' pills. In the general sense, I bet that most of
these supplements come from certain factories and just get
rebranded.
Example. A friend at work was buying some <removed> fish oil for $60 a bottle with 120 capsules, this was a
higher grade of fish oil. I found the same thing under a different
label for $12.50. So far this is the best deal I can find for high
quality oil.
On the other hand, if I want to reduce the cost even more, perhaps
1/2 the cost of the above product, I would have to buy the standard fish oil from the 'big wholesaler' like Costco's brand.
They sell a big bottle with IIRC, 400 pills for $9.
I take four high quality fish oils [~4 grams], to get about the
active ingridients using the standard oils, I would need to consume
about 8 grams. Even if I double the dose, the cost is still cheaper.
The final question was. Can I tolerage 8 grams of oil daily? I determined that I would rather pay more and take less so I'm using
the high quality oil.
I don't buy all my supplements from one manufacturer or distributor, whomever has the best deal is what gets my dollar.
<removed> Do a thorough search, the price differences are huge for the same ingridients.

Puritans pride are a reputable company, with Good manufacturing Practice certification, regularly audited by the FDA... thier products meet all quality standards, so save your money and buy their products, not the expensive brands!

Hello,
My family and I take NOW (Nutrition for Optimal Wellness) vitamins. They are a very reputable company. They don't do much advertising so they are able to keep their costs lower.
