View Full Version : Abnormal MRI- not sure if tied to seizrues, since new

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the hosptial again for TIAs....they tested everything- swallow study showed a hiatal hernia and reflux- so more meds for that, but it's helping.

The MRI of the brain (with dye) showed "early periventricular and subcortical ischemic small vessel disease".....so basically, I've got small vessels, in the white matter of the brain (better than if they were in the gray matter) that are not getting enough oxygen, around the ventricles, and below the biggest chunk of the brain, more near the brainstem.....

It may or may not cause problems in the future...but multi-infarct dementia is a possibility as I get older-- that is a horror.....my mom died demented (from a bladder infection that went into her blood and shot her kidneys), and my biological great aunt died with dementia.... I've seen it where I worked as well- in all sorts of places.

Previous MRIs have been normal-- so this is concerning. My seizures were diagnosed in 1986 (though I'm sure they were going on before someone finally listened to me, and did the testing); not sure if the TIAs are causing them. My carotid arteries, heart valves and vessels, leg vessels are all ok, so not throwing clots to my brain. It's not sure why this is happening or what the future holds. I'm on the medication already to prevent clots.

Sort of scared.
