HI

I do not have an official asthma diagnosis and am 35. I have had episodes of severe bronchitis over the years. This past summer I ended up in ER for having ashtma attack induced by the bronchitis but no wheezing, mainly a bad cough, shortness of breath tighntess in chest. They did breathing treatment and sent me home with inhaler albuterol and 3 days prednisone. I did get better eventually. It was the first time I had ever used and inhaler.

Here is the question: this past week I suddenly began having shortness of breath with no other symptoms. IT has been going on a few days. I used the inhaler (not too helpful) and some leftover prednisone (cut one dose into 3 days) however today feeling somewhat better but have been wondering what is going on? no cough wheezing or cold symptoms. just difficulty gettting good breaths in, getting winded over daily activity, and tightness some come and go pains in chest.

I also have DVT (blood clot in leg) and am worried it could be embolism in the lung. I have no insurance and a toddler to take care of so don't want to rush to the ER just yet.

Just wondering if anyone has asthma with out the wheezing/coughing symptoms

Not everyone that has asthma has wheezing. I have had asthma for almost a year now and maybe have had wheezing like once..but it was very faint. But I do have a lot of coughing. You just need to go see a Dr. and find out. Good Luck!

Can you have asthma without wheezing or coughing? Just the severe tightness????

Vanessa74,

Yes you can have asthma with just chest tightness. I have this type. I've never wheezed and I cough once in a while but nothing off the charts.

Hello John,

Thank you for replying. Do you mind if I ask some questions?

How long have you had asthma? What type of meds do you take? Do you also take any medication for relfux (I noticed you mentioned night time choking episodes in a previous post). Do the asthma meds work for you?

Thank you,

Vanessa
