Hi Im Libby. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for roughly 2 years without success. I was really scared to go to the OB/GYN because I thought it would be too awkward. Now I really regret not going sooner. The reason I finally broke down and went to the OB/GYN is because I stopped having my period and thought I might finally be pregnant, just for some reason it wasn't showing up on store bought tests. After getting my first ever pap results back, my doctor called me to say the test results were abnormal and that they wanted to do a colposcopy and start me on a medication called Medroxyprogesterone (a medication to help my period start again..I haven't had a period since 9/24/07). I went in and picked up the perscription and scheduled an appointment for the procedure. Once I got to the doctors office she told me a little bit more more about what they actually found in the pap. Cancer cells. She said they needed to do the colposcopy to help determine what stage it was. Well Tuesday I had that procedure done, and I am waiting nervously for the call to come with the results. I'm trying in the meantime so not get too frustrated about it and try to piece some things together. I wonder if anyone else has been through this and what the outcome was. Also, the thing that still really gets me is that I have now finished the medication to make my period come, and it still hasn't. Could cancer cause this?

Im sorry this is so long, Im just so frustrated and Im hoping to find other people that can share what I am going through.

Thanks,

Libby

Hi Libby,
I too have recently had an abnormal pap result and like you was very very worried. It came back as HSIL (High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion).
I also have R.S.D. so the stress set this off big time.
I researched the definition and a lot of the symptoms I looked at that were indicative of cervical cancer I also seemed to have.
To cut a long story short, I have to go for my coloposcopy soon, a couple of weeks in fact. My husband was very worried, and approached our G.P. She assured him that if she had 'seen' anything during the pap test, she would have sent me straight for an immediate consult, as time is so important. She stated that they are trained in what to look for, when they do the pap test. She apolazised for not explaining things better, and suggested to my husband that in all probability it was vaginal lesions, although I will require more regular pap tests. So I'm trying to be reassured by this.
Best Regards.
