I am a little confused. My husband had an "encounter" with a person of ill-repute so I went to see the doctor and had some tests done. This is what I came out with ....

IGG HSV 2 ... 3.0
IGG HSV 1 ... .67
IGG HSV 1/2 ... Non Reactive ....

My doctor told me I am positive BUT I should have the test re taken..... is that right? I read the posts on the board and I know everyone wants an answer... NOW ... lol. I just don't know what to think. I do have an appointment with another doctor this week to discuss both the results of these tests and to have another done. I have never had so much as a symptom of herpes and wonder if there is a possiblity that there was something amiss when the test was done. I also had another test that was also considered by the lab to be "non-reactive". I don't remember which one that was.

Thanks ya'll/

Hmmmm. Well here's what it means.

You are positive for HSV2. That means you PROBABLY have genital herpes, as that's where HSV2 usually lives. It could be oral though, it does go there too. Because you are positive via blood, you've had this virus for over 3 months. It takes 3 - 4 months for your blood to develop enough antibodies to show a positive result on the blood test. When was your husbands encounter?? If it was less than 3 months ago, then you had herpes before his encounter.

Your HSV1 result is negative. Your doctor is correct in saying you should get re-tested though. Wait for at least 3 months after your suspected exposure to herpes, and then get tested again.

It's very common to test positive for herpes and yet never show a symptom. If your husband has blood work done, and it's before the 3 month mark, and he shows positive - then he's had it for awhile too. Many people carry the virus dormant in their bodies literally for decades before they show a symptom - if they ever show a symptom.
