Hi! I have been taking Diane birth control pill for 6 years now. I never used any birth control pill before and Diane makes me very comfortable: no pain during ovulation and period and my waxing lasts longer. Last year I tried yasmin by my family doctor suggestion and it was terrible: pain and depression during the period. My gynecologist says if my body feels good about Diane, then it is ok to take it. My family doctor says it is not ok to take Diane and it is a struggle to get a recepe. What should I do?

I don't think it's necessarily any more dangerous than any of the other pills. Your doctor sounds kind of like an idiot. If you can't get a scrip from your regular doctor, why doesn't your gynecologist write it for you? Gynecologists are allowed to write prescriptions. Just tell them what your regular doctor said and that you need them to give you the prescription instead. When I was still on the pill, I would only get the prescription from my gynecologist instead of my regular doctor, just because it was easier that way. It's not a big deal, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Your doctor is NOT and idiot. If you're talking about the Diane that also goes under the name Diane 35, then it's good that your doctor suggested you switch. It has a higher risk of causing blood clots than most pills. 4 times higher. Here in Canada the federal health authority released a warning a few years ago reminding patients and doctors that Diane is for use in treating severe acne, is only for short term use, and has never been approved as a birth control alone.
Basically, pills are not all the same and unless there is a serious reason for using Diane, and given that it's caused more blood clots (and deaths) than any other current brand, I wouldn't want to risk it.

Thank you very much for all your answers. The fact that doctors opinions are divided about birth control pills, makes me insecure about what to do. But if everything just worked fine until now on, Diane, I think I will stick to it.:)
