When can I take Niaspan instead of at bedtime.
Im aleady taking
Lovastatin - 40mg
Cartia - 180mg
Atenolol - 20 or 40mg
Warfarin - 5mg

Plus I am considering not taking Niaspan at all due to past problems.

I cant handle the side affects for more than a few days.
Im not in a mode or time for the headaches and lack of sleep.

Any major lack of sleep currently will result in major problems at work or other areas of my life...

The side effects the last time I took it for a long while I actually lost sleep for weeks and had repeatedly gotten no sleep till exhaustion would set in.. often it took more drugs or serious overexertion to get worn down...

The flusing & related was often way too much, and though taking it at bedtime as instructed..allways caused me extra hours of not being able to go to sleep.

When I first started Niaspan, I took it twice a day. I didn't realize that bedtime was the best time to take it. There is nothing wrong with taking it during the day, but I clearly had better results by taking it at night. I still had positive results when I took it during the daytime... just could have been better by taking it at bedtime.

I would suggest taking it at any time you want until you get use to it. Figure in a month or two, you should be better suited to Niaspan, and may want to then try it at bedtime.

Best of luck. :)

Thanks for the info ...will try it.

I was not sure if 'other than' bedtime was doable.

Niaspan can increase the anti-coagulation effect of Warafin and may cause an increased risk of bleeding , but I assume you got a script from your doc for Niaspan and he is checking your INR time, correct?

Yep.
Inr wise I am real close to being in range and will likley be able to finish that part of all this junk.

Though he has been ignoring some of my other complaints.
And upon the next visit ..if he doesnt handle it then..I will get a new doctor.

A posisbly related problem is that i have serious major 'fatigue' that is interfering with my life & mental capabilities.

I am a guy that till this stuff started was <doing mentally challenging work>. And was able to handle (read multitask) like a 20yr old.

Since then its been nearly crazy... Doctor is blaming the weight gain, despite the fact the fatigue issues predate weight gain by nearly 16 months.

I am actually nearly at a point of dumping all the additional meds (not atenolol)..
unless he does something.
