Hi, I have a wood splinter in my pointer finger which is approximately the width of my finger, and quite deep. I've tried gouging my skin to push the splinter out, to no avail. It's quite swollen and a bit stiff, and hurts slightly if I move it a certain way, but otherwise isn't even that noticeable. It's been there for 2 days. I'm wondering if I should go to a doctor to have it removed, or if they'd say to just leave it in because removing it would cause more harm? I'd like to avoid a doctor's visit if possible...
thanks very much - Nils

Since you can't get the spinter out on your own then you do need to see the doc before this gets infected. If you have someone who can look at your finger and wants to take a shot at trying to get the splinter out great but if not then see the doc.

I would go the the dr. It will eventually start to get swollen and infected.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Have you tried soaking it in warm water with baking soda. Sometimes this brings it up. You could also try putting vaseline (or even better, Bag Balm) on it overnight covered with a bandage. Don't try to get it out yourself as it's so large you may cause infection. As the previous posters say if all else fails see a doc...Tagger

Ok. For any type of splinter, then you need to take the homeopathic remedy SILICA. If you take it in a low dose, then this will push the splinter out of your body and it will come out in a matter of a couple of days. If you take a higher dose, then your body will re-absorb it. I would suggest the lower dose to bring the splinter out.
After it has come out and if there is some infection present and your finger is very painful, then you need to follow the SILICA with the remedy HEPAR SULPH. Take this afterwards and it will clear up any infection. You can obtain both of these remedies from any healthfood store.
Believe me, this dose work. The same thing happened to me and within two days the splinter was out and a follow up with one Hepar Sulph tablet and no further problems at all. Do this and the liklihood is that you won't need to see a doctor at all.
Good luck
