Hi Ladies

I need some help and advice please?
6months ago I had a LEEP done and found out I had CIN III.

anyway I am due my follow up colposcopy and smear tomorrow and I am petrified they didnt get all the bad cells!!!

I dont want to go through a LEEP under local anesthetic again it was the most painful and traumatic experience of my life and cant do it again, I would have to demand to be asleep!

Also the recovery for me was hard work and I bled for 4 weeks and was in agony so if I had somemore treatment tomorrow my xmas would be completely reuined and I would be devestated!

But then if I decided to come back for treatment I would be scared in this time I would develop cancer!

I know I am thinking far ahead here as I might not even need anymore treatment but I am in tears and going out of my mind and would really apprecate some advise and help.
thank you so so much

Hi,

First off, take a deep breath and try to calm down. You are probably getting all worked up for nothing, so don't waste a good panic. :)

I was diagnosed with CIN III in 2005 and carcinoma in situ this past February. I had laser surgery (under general anesthesia) in May. I've had two follow-up Paps since and they've both been normal. The success rate with LEEPs, laser, cryo, etc. is virtually 100%, so the chances of having abnormal cells left are slim to none. Were your margins clear? If so, I doubt you have anything to worry about at all.

And, if the worst should happen and you do have abnormal cells, ask for the Leep to be performed under general anesthesia or ask for laser surgery. I had no problems with recovery for it, in fact, I couldn't tell I'd had anything done.

Let us know how everything goes. I'll be saying a prayer that all will be remarkably unremarkable.

Big hugs from across the pond,

Lisa

(I am a smoker. Lost my virginity at a very young age, only had one pap smear done in grade 9, all of which made me,,,,perfect for a "bad story".) I was petrified when I found out I had carcinoma in situ at the age of 30. Had a leep.

Done 2 clear pap smears since the leep.

There are some good stories out there!

((smith)) I wish I could give you a real hug. I know how nervewracking this is. Odds are on your side! Let us know how it goes.
