Hello,

Since March I have had very dry eyes,,,scratchy, red, and hurt often...at the same time my nasal passages became very dry & my mouth gets so bad that my toungue actually cracks & bleeds if I've slept with my mouth open!

I bought natural tears for my eyes & chew sugarless gum or suck on mints to keep mouth moist...but I want a permanent solution, PLEASE!!!!

I talked to my doc about this & asked if PREVPAC [which she prescribed for h. pylori bacteria] could be the cause, as the symptoms started about 3 days into that regimen...she said no...must admit that I was grasping at straws as I realize that it has been months [took it in March] since I took that medicine & the "dryness" still lingers.

Another doctor told me that some supplements could cause dryness, but didn't go over my list or say which ones...

If anyone has any suggestions or advice I'd be most grateful for pointing me in the right direction :-)

Thanks

You need to find see the doc and find out what is going on. The mouth breathing at night is not normal. Think back on when your symptoms started and see if you can pinpoint when this may have started and work from there. Also the medication could well be causing your symptoms as a web search for side effects shows the following side effects :
dry mouth/thirst, glossitis, respiratory disorders. Go back and re-read your literature that came with the med and take this with you when you see the doc. Always be sure to read the literature that comes with any new medication so you are familiar with what side effects to watch for in a new medication. Since you side effects are so severe I would consider calling the doc today and let him know about the side effects of this med and ask for something different or for an appointment yet today to get this straightened out. If you doc won't address your problems then maybe it's time to find a different doc.

This could also be part of a "sicca syndrome" like Sjogren's...it's an immune attack on the glands in your eyes, nose and mouth, and it results in problems with dryness. Do you have any other health conditions? There is a drug called "pilocarpine" which might be able to help you produce saliva, but if it doesn't help, it might be that your salivary glands have actually been destroyed by your immune system. The reason I say that might be a sicca syndrome is because you have stated that more than one thing is dry (i.e. your eyes, nose and mouth)
