I take Carbamazepine for epilepsy. My girlfriend is on the Pill. This may seem ridiculous, but I worry that I will introduce small amounts into her, either through bodily fluids or through careless handling. It's gotten to the point where I worry that a tiny remnant of my medication remains in my mouth after I swallow my pills, and that I will transfer it into her mouth when we kiss.
I know many medications (including Carbamazepine) can make certain kinds of birth control pills less effective, but does anyone know how much (or how little) is required for this to happen? I always use a condom, but we are both depending on the Pill not failing in case the condom does.

I would not worry about this. I am on topamax for migraine. This is also an anticonvulsant. I take smaller than the anticonvulsant dosages. I take 100mg total a day. I take birth control pills and that is all for pregnancy prevention. No preg. yet. My docs say that the topamax dosage I take is not enough to have an effect on my birth control. So, if my 100mg dosage doesn't have an effect on my birth control pills, your touching your pills probably doesn't either.

do you mind me asking what birth control you take? I too, take 100 mg. of topamax daily for migraines, and am worried that it will conflict with the effectiveness of the birthcontrol. I haven't heard of a b.c. where topamax doesn't interfere, if you do know of one please let me know..i'm currently on velviet- the generic of cyclessa, thanks so much!
