Make sure when you get your evaluation for HBP you need to have your Dr. check your thyroid gland for lumps & bumps plus do the appropriate blood tests naming TSH, Free T3, & T4. If you are over 40yrs the physical check should be every year whereas if you younger you can have it done every 3-4 yrs according to the ACS.

To much thyroid hormone will increase your b/p while too little thyroid hormone can increase or decrease your b/p.

My b/p rose dramatically when I developed thyroiditis & stayed that way until I finally found appropriate b/p meds.

My daughter who lives in another state, just had a lump & 1/2 of her thyroid removed. It was follicular thyroid cancer so now she has to have the rest of the gland removed plus other treatment. She was lucky because a friend of hers noticed the swelling in her neck & pointed it out.

Fam,

I am so very glad your daughter is ok. And thanks so much for this valuable information. I have friends who are experiencing thyroid changes now, too, but after some fine tuning are doing quite well.

Take care.

Hi, :)

Thanks for the warning & a reminder. I will ask my specialist next week to physically check the thyroid and request the appropriate tests. I just had a lot of lab work done. I think my doctor asked for the TSH test only, which is inconclusive without the free T3 and T4. Thanks for the update about your daughter. I am glad to hear the surgery is behind her and she is doing well. I wish her a speedy recovery.
