I did a very stupid thing last night - I was out all night at a party in someone's yard and I didn't wear any bugspray. As you might guess, I have at least 30 mosquito bites all over my body ~_~. I've been doing a pretty good job resisting the urge to itch, but it's very hard! Also, I'm embarassed to wear shorts cause my legs are covered in bumps. How long does it usually take for them to start going away? Thanks.

Use some wintergreen rubbing alcohol. I find that if I rub this on my bites it soothes them and I don't have to scratch. It will kinda burn if you have scratched the bites till they are irritated. Good luck.

It's too late for you now with what I'm about to tell you, but I found a way to get rid of the bumps years ago. The mosquito injects a chemical in your body to stop the blood from clotting. That is what causes the bump and the itching.
What I did was scratch it some to open up the bite a little wider. Within about a half hour of the bite (the sooner the better), I put on some baking soda and table salt paste. Adding corn starch might help some too. The salt draws out the poison, and the bump goes completely away. It was just an experiment I conducted - not something I read in a book. But the trick, was to treat yourself rather quickly after getting bit. That was years ago - now I'm quick at swatting them before they get a chance, or I go outside covered up. I hate mosquitos!!!
Has anyone else treated mosquito bites this way or a similar way to get rid of the bumps?

Hello,
I would like to share some tips on dealing with mosquito bites. I have suffered from mosquito bites for years and I'm always looking for a new remedy for the itching. When I get bitten I get huge welts 1-2 inches across! They take a couple of weeks to go away too. Here is what I've found helps.
1) Wash the bite with soap and water to decrease the chances of getting an infection.
2) Apply Aloe Vera gel
3) Apply calamine lotion
4) Apply a paste made from salt and water.
5) Take a antihistamine, you can even use over the counter medications such as clarinex or clariten.
6) Apply ice pack, a cold compress really does soothe.
It is important that you follow ALL of these steps and continue them for the duration of healing. You may need to apply these a couple of times a day. Remember - the sooner the better!

I agree with everything the last poster said apart from one thing, the antihistamine.
There is a brilliant HOMEOPATHIC remedy called APIS that is just the kind of thing that you need to take for mosquito bites that are red, angry and itching and yes, it really does work. You can get them from a healthfood store and in this situation I whilst things are bad, you should take one tablet and let is dissolve under your tongue. Wait ten mins and then take another one in the same way. Way 15 mins and take another one and then take them on a hourly basis until the itching has stopped and the inflammation has gone down.
Good luck
