We recently found out that our 2 year old has a mild milk allergy. She has improved since removing all dairy from her diet. The pediatrician said that soy milk or even Calcium/Vit D fortified Orange Juice are healthy substitutes for milk, but she won't drink either! I have tried all kinds of soy milk, even chocolate, and I have blended the OJ with all kinds of fruit. Does anyone know of any other kinds of juices or drinks that are milk free and fortified with calcium and vitamin D? I am giving her a vitamin supplement but would prefer she get these nutrients from other sources. Thanks!

Well, there is also Rice Milk. I am not sure about calcium in it, but you could search it. There may also be an Oat milk (?). You could also see if there is a formula (there is, but I cannot think of the name) for older children with milk allergies. I would just call a Nature Store and I bet they have lots of things she could eat/drink. Good luck! I am hoping my little 6 month old grows out of his milk allergy....or we will be looking for similar things!;)

All 3 of my kids have a milk allergy. I have found out that 2% milk works really good for them. You might want to start with 1% and see how it works for you child then maybe going to 2%. My oldest is now 10 and youngest is 2. I have tried everything with my oldest and found the 2% worked best.
Good Luck

Yes, go to the local health food store for many milk alternatives. Most brands are fortified with calcium, vit D. etc. My DS has a milk allergy and for him we use a new milk that just came out this year called Hemp milk. It is made from the hemp nut and NO it does not have any of the chemical that makes marijuana! It has 4 grams of protein per serving and comes in plain, vanilla and chocolate. It is creamy like whole milk. My son could also not tolerate soy- some kids who have milk allergies react the same to soy. There is also rice milk as another poster mentioned, almond milk and others. Good luck!

I was wondering if you could tell me your childs symptoms from the allergy. My daughter is having trouble lately. I started LActaid and Im seeing a difference but Im shooting blindly here. We see a GI specialist on Monday but Im trying to get my questions ready. I dont even get the difference between allergy and intolerance yet. The ER said my girl was constipated but then her bowels went the opposite way later that week. She was fine for 1-2weeks and now is showing signs of pain again. What troubles did you have with your daughter??

From what I understand, a child with a milk allergy is allergic to the proteins in milk. (Casein and whey) A child who is lacose intolerant is sensitive to the lactose in milk. Lower fat milk has more lactose. A milk allergy can have many different symptoms from respiratory problems to skin problems. Good luck finding out the source of your little one's discomfort!

PEDIASURE! Its safe and your doctor can prescribe it if you cann't buy it. comes in vanilla I believe and chocolate and strawberry. Maybe that would work!?
