I have a quick question. Last night I started taking Cipro, an antibiotic, for a UTI. I'm suppose to take cipro twice a day for the next ten days. I also take oxy twice a day and percocet 3x's a day for b/t pain. My oxy hasn't taken my pain away for 3 weeks now (that's an entirely different story) but today my percocet hasn't helped with my pain either and I'm wondering if it's b/c of the cipro? Does anyone have any experience with this? I would appreciate any responses. I can't have my percocet failing me too.

Thanks :-)

I just ******d the two drugs on a site I as a nurse use a lot. No interactions noted - however it is a well known fact among medical professionals that antibiotics can decrease the efficiency of a lot of medications and it is highly possible that it decreases the effectiveness of oxycontin/percocet. Call a pharmacist if you need to be sure but you may need to increase your dose of pain med while on the antibiotics. It could also be that your pain is worse due to the infection for which you are taking the antibiotics.

just an FYI for you,but after my last knee surgery,i started having symptoms of a possible infection(it was not what it turned out to be tho)but they placed me on cipro for i think it was like ten days or so?but i was already taking my normal oxycontin like usual and also was taking extra percocet for the surgical pain too and never ever had any problems at all.when the PA at my orthos went to place me on the cipro, she actually had to go thru her little 'book' of the best possible type of anti B for my situation(i have very bad reactions to most oral anti Bs),so i KNOW without a doubt that she looked this up before she called in the Rx.i would be pretty safe in assuming that if everything is normal and you have no underlying medical issues going on,this combo would be okay.i know my PA did check this all out with me over the phone.i was actually kind of suprised that i didn;t have any real type of normal stomach burning like i do with other anti Bs i have tried.it worked well.but you can always call your pharmacy just to be sure for your particular medical history.hope all goes well for you,Marcia
