is it safe to have sex with your partner when you both have herpes or do we need to take extra precaution for spreading

I have the same question. My wife has had an outbreak and I have tested positive. There seems to be plenty of information on protecting your uninfected partner, but I can't find anything on saftey and concern between two positive partners. If neither of us are experiencing symptoms is it safe to have sex like we always have? What about oral sex? If anyone can direct me to a resourse on this, I would be greatfull.

I can tell you that there are various different substrains of herpes (not just 1 and 2, different types of each) and that if a person who has herpes comes in contact with another person who has herpes, if their strains are far enough apart, each might get worse/get new outbreaks.

Just something to think about.
