I have had chronic insomnia for years now. I was taking Seroquel for it as I became resistant to any sleeping tablets, but gained heaps of weight on it. So I wont take it anymore. I don't fall asleep until after 5 am and get up early and am so tired all day, but even then I don't sleep again. I've had enough now, I don't know what to do. I don't drink caffeine at all, or alcohol, don't smoke. I don't know what to do. Any advice would be so much appreciated.

I have the same problem. A doctor told me the Seroquel was a last resort for me. Just keep trying different things. I am usually bad not to stick to one medicine long enough to see if it will work...doctor says give it 6 weeks. I am currently on trazadone 50 mg. It seems like my body builds up a tolerance to sleep meds quickly. I am always searching for a magic sleep formula and found out there isn't any. GOOD LUCK and if you find something that helps you please let me know.

My mother in law has the same problem!!! She was given something for anxiety which also makes her sleep. For several months I would only get 3 hours per night of sleep. Well, my doc also said that it must be do to stress or anxiety. I was given Paxil and it made me too sleepy! I hope that you can get to the bottom of your insomnia soon!

I have the mere opposite. I have Hypersomnia and quickly adapt to all me meds. I just wanted to give you some support because I didn't realize the same thing could happen for insomniacs. I understand your frustration!

Have you been to a sleep specialist? Have you had a sleep study? Insomnia is often a side effect of many other sleep disorders. You really need to have a sleep specialist evaluate your sleep via a sleep study to get a full picture. Sleep apnea sufferers get worse on sleep meds. It is a well known side effect over here as far as sleep specialists are concerned.
