Hi, I give my two children ages 2.5 and 7yrs old vitamins each morning with their breakfast. For some reason this morning when I reached for the bottle, I decided to check on the sugar content. I saw that the vitamins I was giving have no salt, no yeast, no gluten, no lactose and no aspartame which I was happy about. I turned the package over and under directions it only had the ages 4-12 years. I read a bit further down and it said there is enough iron in this pkg to seriously harm a child-keep away from children. This concerned me because my 2 and a half year old has been taking one a day for months now. There is 5mg of Iron, should I take her to the dr? I just hope I haven't hurt her in anyway. I'm obviously not giving her anymore. Any ideas what this amount of iron could do to a young child?
thanks

According to the US government, a 1-3 year old child needs 7 mg of iron per day, (including food sources) and the safe upper limit is 40.

When the package said, enough to harm a child, I believe they meant taking the entire bottle at once would be harmful.

Generally, when little kids get too much iron supplementation, they get upset tummies.

Should you stop giving her the vitamin? Sure, at least until you get a chance to ask your pediatrician about a good vitamin for her age. Do you need to call poison control? No, I really don't think so.

My pediatrician recommended giving my toddler 1/2 a vitamin every day. She is 2 years old. I use the Flinstones brand vitamins.

thanks for your replies, I will make sure to read the pkg more carefully next time.
