Starting tomorrow I will be taking 40mg of Prozac instead of the 20mg that I've been taking for a few years. Is there a chance of having any side effects from this increase? If so, what might I feel? Thanks. Michelle ;)

Prozac along with other SSRI's have various side effects including: Insomnia, tiredness, short-term memory loss, numbed emotions, nausea, appetite loss, changes in sexual function (low sex drive or inability to orgasm), headaches, itchiness, tremors, sweating, hair loss, etc., I could go on and on. They could happen at any time during the course of your treatment, even at the lower doses. You may even have already experienced some of these. If you haven't already, given the increase, you're probably going to experience some of them, maybe not all, but some. Sorry to sound so general or even to sound clinical, but that's just the way it is. Everybody is different and will react differently to different meds. I myself am very sensitive to all medications (not just ad's) to the point where I won't take anything at all anymore but vitamins, herbs, and supplements. I throughly research everything now before I put it into my body. True, these things do have side effects as well, but quite frankly, if I do experience any unwanted side effects from what I take, they disappear soon after I stop taking them. Unfortunately, that hasn't been my experience with prescription medications. For example, I've been off of Prozac for almost a year, and I still don't have much of a sex drive to speak of. I was on it for 8 years, but I've heard of people being on it for a lesser period of time, and still end up with major sexual problems. In the grand scheme of things, compared to having to suffer from major depression without meds, this might sound like a 'minor' side effect to some, but I'm married so it's a huge problem for me. If I wasn't married or in any kind of a relationship, I wouldn't care if I ever had sex again. That should let you know about where my interest lies now. I can remember even when I was at my lowest with the depression, still wanting to have sex. Hopefully, I've answered your question and this all hasn't been too much information for you.

In your favor is the fact you've been on the drug for a while. Side effects are still possible, however.
