Hi everyone,
Well I have posted in Lyme and Lupus boards in the past. For 3 years, the doctors (I have seen 'em all!!) are trying to find out what is wrong with me.

My rhuematologist just did a CA 125 test last week on a hunch. It isn't positive, but she isn't happy with it either. It was 33.5 (0 - 35). I wonder what this can mean?

I do know that I have a nodule on my thyroid which has never been biopsied.

Anyway - I am being sent next Friday (12.21) for a pelvic ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound.

Is it possible to have cancer with a CA 125 that is "normal"?

The raised CA-125 means that you should get some things checked but not that you for sure have or are getting Ovarian cancer. Often people with Ovarian Cancer can have ca-125 levels in the hundreds or even thounds. Other conditions can can a raise in you ca-125 levels as well. Conversely you could have cancer with a fairly normal ca-125. So the point is try not to worry youtself too much yet.

Im not sure but if it is high you know something is going on in your obgyn areas. I had fibroids and mine was higher than norm but it was not cancer. I think it means something is not right and you need to check it out. There are other blood test for thyroid especially i think is tpo to tpa that will check out your antibody count.
A lot of doctors just focus on just your tsh levels for homones/thyroid too. My tsh levels are oka but my tpo is very high had ultrasound and found nodule on my thyroid not to mention hashimotoes. They may want to wait six weeks to see if the cysts collapse causing the water problem. If thats the problem ask them if they will continue to grow back.
Good luck
God Bless

P.S. They should not be blaming everything on being large. Yes there are risks involved but they should understand that being large does not mean you are not suseptible like evreyone else the same kinds of ailments, diseases, problems that anyone can have sorry for spelling

Hi selfdiagnosed ,

Just wanted to say that I was tested for CA 125 and it was elevated to 78.5 At the time it did worry me as lots of things were going on . As I read that even menstration can cause an elevation I asked for it to be re-done ( had my blood test on the 1st day ) and it dropped to I think 58 . Can you believe that my gyn ( a woman ) told my onc/gyn that instead of doing a cone he should go for a hysterectomy ! After the 2nd result plus doppler ultrasound nothing was seen to indicate any problems .What can I say I don't know why it was elevated, but a few months ago it went down to 35.5 !
Whilst worrying I researched like you quite a lot and see that in people who actually have ovarian cancer elevated is in the hundreds. I am sure your number is no reason to worry ,

A happy and healthy new year to you .
Mx
