Ok, I am 20 years old, female, 5'1 1/2. I'm not sure how much exactly I weight right now, but I think its around 150 :-/ Anyways, I'd like to lose at least 20 lbs and get down to 130, theres no real deadline for it because I'd just doing it to be healthier and happier about my body. For the last 5 days I have had 1200-1300 calories a day. Is this a good amount to lose weight? I dont want to eat too little and my body hold on to fat. I've done pretty good with it so far by just drinking alot of water and eating small, low calorie meals/snacks throughout the day and not eating after 8pm. Does this sound like a good plan so far? I know some of you are much wiser about nutrition and weight loss, I'm pretty new to it, and just to hear if you have any pros/cons about my plan would be really wonderful. Also, say I'm able to stick to this for a couple months and lose the weight that I want off. How do I not overeat again but increase my calories to MAINTAIN weight. If you go a long time on low calories and then increase them, do you gain weight super fast? How should it be done, gradually? Please give me advice, I really want to be successful:-) Thanks!

Hi there! I think 1200-1300 is a good amount for you to be eating for losing weight. I am 5'4" 125 pounds and was told that 1200 calories would be good for me to lose weight. When you are done losing the weight, you can probably move up the calories to 1500 or so to maintain. It's kind of something you have to try and see what works for you! 1500 calories did not make me lose weight so I had to go lower and see what works.
My best advice for not overeating and keeping off the weight would be to stay positive! Keep healthy snacks around that you actually enjoy... don't force yourself to eat foods you hate just because they are healthy. Keep junk foods away or buy it in a very small portion so you can still enjoy it without feeling guilty. Also, some people do a cheat day once a week so they don't feel deprived. Once I start to feel more confident about myself, I don't want to mess it up with eating bad and not exercising and usually I keep it up for the most part. Sure, I have my times I mess up, but I just try to get back to it!

I think for sustained, noticeable weightloss its exercise that makes more of a difference than just calorie cutting. Take up jogging/running 3 times a week for example, aim for a steady, slow pace for as long a you can manage, aim to keep going for as long as you can, at least 20 minutes.
As you build up your fitness, your body becomes more efficient at using the food you take in as fuel, rather than storing it as fat. You'll become stronger and healthier, with more energy and motivation than if of you just cut calories (which i've always found leaves me tired and grumpy ) and in my experience you'll find you're more inclined to choose healthy foods after exercise.

I had the same problem, I have a 5 year old who doesn't give me time to go running but I wanted the same results from running while doing some kin of fitness routine that I could include her in. Have you done research on pool exercises?
My daughters new favorite pass time is swimming which is a great work out in itself so I started to look at work out systems for a pool and I was suprised to find very few were inexpensive and easy to use. I have a 5 year old on my hands I don't need a system which would take an engineer to put up nor did I want something permanently stuck to my pool.
I discovered a great piece of equipment on a swimmer's forum, which has become my secret weapon. It's a small, portable system called aquavee (cost me all of $120), which has helped my fitness levels enormously. I can roll out of bed - I don't even have to brush my teeth to go workout. I just throw on a bathing suit and jump in the pool. You kind of just stick it to the wall of your pool with suction cups, that I can deal with.

Any kind of activity which gets your heart rate up (and keeps it there) is what you should aim for. There's loooads of running alternatives - Aerobics classes, cycling, jogging up and down stairs, eliptical machines, swimming, rowing, power walking, dancing, exercise videos, jogging on the spot while you're watching tv, walking instesd of taking your car etc. etc. there's something to fit into every lifestyle. Find what works for you

Even cutting out 100-200 calories a day from your norm can help you lose 10-20 lbs a year...and that's a small change...stop drinking one regular soda a day! It sounds like you have a great outlook. There are a lot of sites out there that will help you find info on how many calories to take in a day...maybe try looking at the mayo clinic's webpage, they have a lot of useful info/calculators...even the jenny craig page has useful tips. Small steps are the easiest. You might also like the 'realage' webpage...by dr. oz and his associate...LOTS of great stuff there. Hope this helps!

Hi, I have tired so many diets over the years and they helped me lose a few pounds. But I got so frustrated when those pounds not only returned, they multiplied. And then I had to start again.
I really wanted to find a simple and lasting weight loss system. which also improves my health. After researching a lot on the topic, I came across a total weight management system, which includes stepped up activity and healthier, more sensible meal choices. It claimed that I will be able to lose the weight and have a way to keep it off. What impressed about the system was that it took a simpler approach to weight management, get the weight out of m way and at the same time live my life my way. I decided to give it a try. I haven't been trying so many other weight loss plans without lasting success, so I thought "what the heck!" It won't hurt, and if it works I get good results then GREAT. I follow the system and I lost 8 pounds in the fisrt month! Although I was still eathing meals with my family, I was satisfied with less food without even thinking about it. I just wasn't hungry. I was so excited to get such great results with the system. It kept me going to my target weight. I am still following the system and keep losing weight. It is so easy to follow and the real deal is it works. I can't wait to start wearing cloths that I want to instead of clothes I have to! I feel healthy, lose weight and gain confidence. I feel great! I want to share my success with all of you. The system works and it's safe so there's huge opportunity for many people.
If you would like to find more about the system and how you could get it Iwould be really glad to tell you about it.
Good luck to all!
