I have never had any problem with healing from a surgery until this time.
The surgery was a breast lumpectomy. The mass was found to be benign. The wound was closed with glue, steri strips and only internal sutures. I had a reaction to the steri strips and blisters formed where the steri strips were. The wound was never infected, no puss or matter in the wound. As the blisters went away the skin turned a hard thick black colored raised skin area. The area is about the size of a quarter. It is black as cole and the area just gets bigger and bigger. I now have a new area that looks like it is going to blister also even though there was no steri strip there. My surgery was about 2 weeks ago. My surgeon tells me not to worry that I must have had a bad reaction to the electric caudery bovie used to stop bleeding during surgery. He is planning on removing the black scab and making a new incision so that the scar looks better. There is also a big red ring around the area now, is warm to the touch and painful. If this continues I will see the doctor before Monday. Today is Friday. The black looks like gangrene which my doctor said it is not. I need to mention that I have adrenal insufficiency due to long term steroid use. I cannot find any information on the black scab. Thanks for your help.

Im sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this and I'm even more sorry to say that I have no experience with this type of skin problem :( I would suggest that if you're super worried about it and don't think you can wait until Monday, to go to the ER and get it checked out.

I read your post about the black thick wound you have or had from your lumpectomy and I was wondering how you are doing now? I have a story to tell you also about the same type of thing but this is gangrene. Please tell me if you are still around.

Thanks,
Connie
