View Full Version : Just thinking

I know I'm going to get killed for this post but here it goes. I'm in the middle of withdrawl and as most of you know your mind takes over your body. Anyway I was thinking of why people get addicted to drugs not just perscription but any drug? I know for me it was pain but then it moved into using for emotional problems and to just get through the day. Some people just use to escape...but why? If our body was built with certain chemicals to control your emotions why would anybody need to take drugs to escape. It would be so much easier if there was a certain pill you could take just for the euphoria. Pain patients could get the pain medication they need without going through hell to get them and not getting treated like a druggie, and there would be no such things as meth, crack, etc because you wouldn't need it anymore. Just as you need blood preasure medication to control blood pressure not eveyone needs it because some of us have excellant blood pressure, etc every body is diffrent some of us needs things that other don't and maybe we are just lacking some kind of happy chemical? I know I know I am thinking way out there but it is just a thought that came to me. I will shut up now!!

That is what antidepressants are for! Some of us, me included, have a screw up in our brains concerning chemicals and receptors. Some are born with the malfunction, or, as for me, it is caused by external forces. Chemo did a number on me. One particular chemical in my protocol is known to cause severe depression in many patients. However, in trying to save life, we do what we have to and then work with the consequences afterwards. Sometimes, also, events that are really horrible in our lives cause our receptors to suck up more serotonin and endorphines than the brain can produce. Chemical inbalance occurs.

We can also cause the chemical inbalance in our brains when we use drugs for emotional pain that are designed for physical pain. That is what many of us have done on this board. It is called self-medicating. Sadly, it can also be called quackery because we begin to medicate ourselves with no real knowledge of what the hell we are doing. Sad smiles. I have lived, and learned. I take NO medicine now without the guidelines given by my doctor who is eductaed, trained and skilled in this. I don't expect him to be very capable at making my homemade Minnistrone, and in return, he doesn't expect me to be able to prescibe medicine for myself. Chuckles.
