It depends what strain of HPV. The most common strain causes warts only and only effects the skin. It's kinda like some people get warts on their hands, some are transmitted sexually and appear in the genital or anal area. Generally, it only effects the skin. There are some strains that can cause cancer, and you can also have several strains at once. If you have the type of HPV that causes warts, you can also get the kind that causes cancer at a later time, should you have intercourse with someone that has that strain. It is important to get your yearly paps to make sure you know what is going on in your body so you can react. ;)
