View Full Version : 18 day period - Dr. wasn't helpful...

Hi hi,

I am on NuvaRing and have been for about 3 years. I have never really had any problems with it till now.

I took my ring out on november 18th and I should have gotten my period on Friday Nov 23rd. It was actually late and didn't start till the 24th or the 25th. I put my new ring in on the 25th and I've been brown spotting/very light light bleeding ever since.

I called the doctor's office about 20 mins ago to see what they thought and they were basically nonchalant about it. I'm supposed to take my current ring out on Sunday (dec 16th) and she was like just wait a while longer and see if it stops lol

If I take it out on Sunday (which would mean I should start my period on the 21st) will I get another period? Or will it just skip entirely?

The only thing I can think it is is that the last couple months I've messed up by taking it out a day early and putting it back a day late... the doctor's office said that could do it... but I didn't think only screwing it up by a day would make me bleed for 18 days a month later...

Anybody ever had this problem?

Well I've been bleeding for a month now...

I took out the ring Dec 16th and I got more of a normal period and the blood got pink/red and heavier. I put a new one in on the 23rd and I'm still bleeding.

How can I possibly produce this much blood? Is this normal? I was gonna call the gyn again tomorrow but I dunno what they are gonna tell me... last time she just told me it was probably normal and wait it out.

How long am I supposed to wait? I've never had this happen before and its freaking me out. Can I get ill from bleeding so long?

Amy, I'm sorry you're having this problem, that totally sucks. This is only a suggestion, and I don't even know if it's going to work because I'm not all that familiar with the ring (having no personal experience with it). Why not try maybe taking it out and seeing if your bleeding stops, wait until your next period, and start over again? That's what I have done in the past with the pill when I have had extended bleeding and it seemed to work.

If you're using it for contraceptive purposes, then you will of course need to use backup during that time when you're not on it. But if you're not getting any answers from the doctor, you may want to give it a try and see what happens.

Hmm... thanks for the advice... I'm just wondering if I go off it if its just gonna make the bleeding and stuff worse... can bleeding for so long make you sick? Like depleted of anything?

I feel quite tired all the time... :(
