View Full Version : Are these symptoms

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. I'm rather nervous.
Two months ago I had a sharp like pain on the right side on my naval about one inch and down a teeny bit. Not my lower lower abdomen. It was intermittent for one week. Then it disappeared for about 3 weeks. I figured I had pulled a muscle.

Then two weeks ago it came back and lasted 3days, once again intermittent. Now that pain has gone but I have a new pain directly below my belly button. Some days I have it maybe 2x and other days up to 10x. The pain is very quick, like a millisecond and is not severe. More like a twinge. However, if I press down hard on my stomach it doesn't hurt. Now I'm worried, thinking its ovarian cancer as I've heard ovarian cancer can cause pain but does not hurt if you press on your tummy. It seems to be lessening and I never have it when Im in bed or sleeping, only once I am up and about.

Thanks.

Hi,

Given the timing you described and the type of pain, it sounds like mittlesmirtz, pains that occur during ovulation. You might want to check with your doctor though, just to set your mind at ease.

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned I'm 53, -over one year into menopause. No more ovulating for me.

No weight gain/loss, no bloating (except after a big meal) , no frequency to urinate, no nausea, just that odd stitch.

It sounds like it may be a fibroid to me or maybe even an Ovarian Cyst

Good luck

Hello Janet,

Why not go and get it checked out ? It doesn't hurt to go and have a pelvic exam done. You may also wish to schedule an ultrasound as this is the only non invasive way that you can know if your ovaries and uterus look normal (ie. in case there is a cyst or a fibroid or a polyp or whatever that may be causing the intermittent pains).

I definitely would not start to worry about ovarian cancer though. Don't forget that there are other organs in that region in addition to your ovaries. Appendicitis often presents like ovarian cystic pain and your sigmoid colon and bladder are also located in that general vicinity (kidney stones may be another possibility ?). Also, I believe that bloating is listed as the main symptom of early stage ovarian cancer and not the intermittent pains that you describe. A colleague of mine was recently diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer and her main symptom was severe bloating and an abdomen that got bigger and bigger despite her not being able to keep any food down (she gained about 33 lbs of ascites). This went on for over a month before she decided to go and have it checked out.

Go and put your mind at ease and have it checked by your doctor. Just because you are not experiencing a debilitating pain, it does not mean that you should feel uncomfortable about having it checked out.

Good luck to you and take care.

Hi Estria,

Thanks for your reply.

The pain is gone now, haven't had it for 4 days. But I will still have it checked out.

Take care
Janet
