My Mom who is 59 years old has been offered health coverage and prescription for only $14.95 a month! Does anybody know anything about this? She does not know that name of the company. They are going to send her paperwork on it and she has 30 days to look over it before she signs up for it. They said they will take the money directly out of her checking account every month. Red flags went up when she told me about this. She is a high-risk person because she has had two brain surguries due to annuyisms on her brain. Is this just another scam? Anyone know?

I think I would be skeptical about this company,do you live in the same city as your mom? when she gets the infomation call the company and see what its all about because I have never heard of any health insurance for 59.00 a month unless its just for prescription coverage. I would really be interested in knowing the company name.

HChondria,

It's useless insurance- probably something like $100 a day coverage while your hospitalized. It covers only a miniscule amount of your costs.

Worse is the "accident insurance"....very few people are hospitalized for accidents.

Have mom look elsewhere.

No doubt - this sounds like a "supplemental" insurance policy, which only covers a percentage of the amount left over after the primary insurance pays the bill in cases where the doctor or hospital doesn't accept assignment (meaning they will only charge what insurance will pay). They usually DO NOT cover the entire difference. There are very few instances where supplemental insurance is a good thing - when you see a doctor that doesn't accept assignment or have to see a doctor out of network. However, most of the time the amount of paperwork is incredible and denial of payment is routine. It can be extremely time-consuming and frustrating even for someone who is patient and experienced in filing their own paperwork. Your best bet in checking this out would be to contact your state's insurance commissioner and see what they have to say about the company. Chances are they'll be able to tell you everything about this company you want to know, both good and bad, and you'll be able to make an informed decision about this insurance.

I think Zip is probably right.

These cheapo policies are OK if she has other insurance.

They usually pay a set amount paid directly to the hospitalized patient and are intended to help offset costs such as missing work and out of pocket expenses.

I would contact AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). They are probably on top of something like this, and can tell you more.
