I'm going for this job interview in late December.
They ask have i taked any prescription medications in the last 3 months.
I'v been on Paxil, Klonopin and Seroquel.
They also have a doctor examine me.
I pretty much know if i tell them i'v been on these meds.
I have no chance of getting this job.
I'm curious how long do meds stay in the body?
Thanks

Hi:
It differs from med to med. Paxil and Effexor stick around for a long time which is part of the reason it is so difficult to get off of them. I would guess a month after the drug is stopped it should be gone but I am really not sure. The other two are gone I believe in a matter of weeks if not shorter.
take care

Hi Stoler99
Drugs have what are called a half-life, which is how long it takes for half of the drug to leave your system. For example, if you are taking 50 mg of one drug and its half life is 3 days, after 3 days of not taking the medication, you will have 25 mg in your system, after another 3 days, half of 25 mg = 12.5 mg, and then after another 3 days, half of that, and so on and so forth. All medications have differing half lives, some are in days, and others can be in hours. Ask your doctor, or you can even look them up online, some sites have really good information on this....its usually in the pharmacokinetics part of the medication explanation. Differing factors affect the half lives as well, which could be a slower or hightened metabolism, and also depending how the drug is eliminated (liver or kidneys), if there is a problem with the elimination of this drug, then it can stay in your body longer.
Good luck finding the information :)
Take care

I was told by my doctor that Paxil stays in the body for three months after you stop taking it. I'm not sure how long it takes for other meds but it's possibly the same.

Look up half-lives of these meds....Paxil is 20 something hours if I remember correctly.

what kind of job is allowed to know what kind of prescription drugs you are on and then hold it against you?!!!
Don't stop taking your meds as they are not testing for those kinds of drugs. In my humble opinion....It is pretty much none of their business what you are taking. And you don't have to reveal it to that doctor either...it is none of his business either. He is just looking for any blood pressure/heart related diseases. And just let him do the investigation as far as you are concerned just tell him you are healthy. When it comes to jobs do not reveal anything on those health forms...say NO to everything because it is none of their business. You can answer any questions that have to do with childhood diseases and immunization type things if you want but any surgeries or medical conditions or mental heath issues...none of their business. They can't ask you anything like that at job interviews regarding all that so but they think if they stick a medical form in your face you somehow will feel obligated to fill it out...just write or check the no box on everything. If you make it through the process of being examined by their doctor just treat him like a stranger and just say no or 'I don't know' to whatever he/she asks. Any testing they might do you will have to comply with but just play pretty much dumb to anything. This is just all my opinion...you do what you want....Good luck

Well, be careful you can get sick if you just stop taking these kinds of medications abruptly!

Hi...
AnnD is right....in Canada anyway, you are not required to answer personal questions like that. They arent' even supposed to ask if you're married!
Please don't stop taking Paxil cold turkey. It has a very long half life, and requires several reductions in dosage, before stopping completely. I can safely say, that if you do stop cold turkey, it won't be good.

Paxil has a half life of 21 hours so you need to taper carefully. You will notice withdrawal effects fast.
