Hi, I live in the poorest state, MS. We can't afford ins. for me, my hubby has blue cross throught his company, they pay for it. My son has the chip program which is a form of medicaid.I have notta, I went to apply for medicaid and they turned me down, the people in the office told me a person can only make $280 a month, who lives off of 280 month? I checked about getting it through hubby work, $300 a month, does anyone know if maybe there is something cheaper, or does anyone know about medicaid. They will let you get on it when u are preg. And I know there are people here who have medicaid, and work. I'm not going to go up and ask someone I don't know how they get it.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Remember that every state has their own guidlines for people on medicaid -- the only required coverage is for hospital insurance for those under 21, and preganent women.

In Mississippi I would go to www.mphca.org (http://www.mphca.org) to get a list of community health centers. These are physician clinics, partially funded by the federal government, which employ primary care physicians & dentists, and make their services available on a sliding fee. They are also the experts on patient assistance programs, and often specialists will agree to see patients for reduced fees if you go to a CHC first. You will need to bring proof of your income.
