I try to drink about two 16oz of orange juice during the day to replace the potassium loss. Then I include Carnation Instant milk, again about two 16oz during the day in the form of hot chocolate if I can get it down. A few times I will have 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water- stirred very well to replace the sodium bicarb that is also lost in the urine. Then I make some of that Lipton's dry chicken flavored soup to replace the sodium & chloride that is also lost in the urine. Drinking tea helps to provide additional water so that you end up with at least 8- 10 glasses of water. Then you can gradually have apple sauce & toast. Oh, I forgot to mention Yogurt Dannon's which I have to protect my stomach from the meds. Usually I do have to have a slice of Kraft cheese if the meds hurt my tummy. Fam

Famnd,

Thank you so very much...I will stock up today. I'll get some frozen oj and applesauce as those are two things I don't have on hand. Dannon's Yogurt is a staple although I make my own yogurt, too....must figure out how to make the whipped chocolate version as it is a wonderful low fat dessert!!!

What I really like about your "diet" is that it is readily available, contains fruits, carbs, and proteins in addition to electrolytes, and is easy to prepare!!! Beause goodness knows, when you're sick, the last thing you want to do is put a meal together.

Sorry I didn't get back to you before this but I just found your post...forwhatever reason, this thread wasn't "in bold" when I saw it...

Well, famnd,

I didn't expect to need this info so soon...was sick over Christmas with the stomach flu. Next year I will get together with family and friends on or after the holidays so I will not be sick on the holiday itself, lol.

Just wanted to add that rice and eggs are easy to fix when you're feeling like trying solid food...doesn't do much for the electrolytes, but does help the energy level.

Sorry to hear you are sick. Sure hope your stomach flu doesn't last as long as my cold did. Somehow I don't get stomach symptoms when I get a virus-you would think my stomach would be more vulnerable. Eggs & rice would be easily digested.

I'm working on making a cookbook for my grandkids with the family favorites with emphasize on low cal, fat, & sugar. I'll have a calorie count etc. for each dish.

Those new b/p books that I got have sections on sleep apnea. I'll post any new info. Hope I learn something to decrease my meds. At the very least reading about HBP motivates me to lost weight when I see all the consequences of having high numbers. Fam
