A close friend of mine recently underwent CyberKnife Radiotherapy for early stage P.C. He opted for it because its promoted as the least invasive, quickest and easiest treatment modality. His radiation treatments lasted only one week following the preparation implants.
My research indicated this is still an unproven treatment compared with the more established methods of radiation therapy, i.e. IMRT, Proton Beam and Brachytherapy. There is no long term data comparing its curative rates with the other methods and Radical Prostatectomy and the skill levels and technology are variable between practioners since this isn't offered at the top cancer centers but usually at private clinics.. Also the research indicates that there is a suspected higher risk of recurrance at the treatment margins since the "knife" only treats to the edge of the cancer.
Anyone have more information about its effectiveness as a long term cure?

Are you familiar with Dr. Israel Barken who heads Prostate Cancer Research and Education Foundation (PC-REF), a non-profit group in San Diego? He has a weekly call-in hour (Tuesdays at 6 pm Pacific time) and recently had a physician, Dr. Ronald Fuller, who does the CyberKnife procedure, as a guest speaker. Each show is recorded and available for listening later on the internet. Some shows have a guest expert while others just have questions posed to Dr. Barken. One can record a question which will be played back and answered "live" (assuming they get to you)-- the question can be left anytime in advance of the weekly hour.
If you look for Israel Barken or that group using an internet search, it will be easy to find.

Thanks. I'll look into it. By the way the CyberKnife treatment has also been called Stereotactic RadioSurgery in past years. CyberKnife sounds cooler for marketing purposes.
