I have been diagnosed with: polycystic ovaries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression, and Fibromyalgia. I was perfectly healthy before I went over there in 1991. I was a combat medic for 122nd MSB, 3rd armoured division. I rec'd that DoD letter about being exposed. I am always tired, I have nightmares every night, my body always hurts, and I have gained considerable weight. I went to Iraq, Saudi, and Kuwait directly from AIT in Fort Sam Houston. Before I went I rec'd numerous immunizations. ALSO - I became VERY ill while my unit was "stationed" outside of Kuwait City. I was working at the Safwan Refugee camp at the time. I became very anemic and had to get a blood transfusion. I was evac'd to 97th general hospital in Frankfurt, Germany. They are still not sure why I got sick so fast. I was bleeding very heavily. No prior history of that at all.

I have all of your ailments plus asthma, chronic broncitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, severe muscle aches and severe aches to the bone, none of which I had prior to my service in the gulf with the 72nd MP unit out of Vegas. I have been turned down for an upgrade in compensation, which is currently 20%, several times due to "not well-grounded claim". Have you come across that? I also have a 6 year old son who has been diagnosed with ADHD, I'm a bit sceptical on that diagnoses. Do you have any children? God bless you and your family, Tanya

Hi itanya1,

Just out of curiosity, did you by any chance serve in either of the EPW camps?

I was an MP as well, when I served in the Gulf War.

I was stationed at one of the EPW camps...'East Camp' was it's unofficial name, if I remember right. It was the largest collection of American MPs ever in history. There was, like, 2200 of us, all in one place.

Of course, I know we MPs would have been stationed at various places, all around, but this was one of the most common places in Saudi to find an MP.

It was near a town called, somthing like...Hafir Al Batin. I swear, it does not matter how many times I look at my records to remind myself, I can barely ever remember that name (that is it, though it might be spelled wrong).

Just curious, that's all.

A former MP.

Hi Steve, I was at one of the larger EPW camps but cannot remember which one. I do remember our living quarters(tent village) were next to an Oklahoma unit, if that helped and I cannot remmeber the name of the nearby town. I do know that it only took us about 20 minutes to get to the nearest town when we were allowed to go. Do you have health problems as well? What unit were you with in Saudi? On what records do you find this info? I do not have anything with the name of the nearby town on it. Thanks and God bless!

I just this week learned that CFS/Fibrmyalgia has the same symptoms as GWS. Please see Trooper's post about mycoplasma of 9-27-01. I shared some info that I have come across since seeing the doctor this week who suspects that I have mycoplasma fermentans.

Good luck and God Bless.

Hey guys! I was also a MP just down the road where 2 enormous POW/refugee camps existed. Our encampment and tent city were very near yours and we often exchanged intellegence and even POWs as the camps grew to full capacity within the segregation units. I was with the 157th MP Co. out of West Virginia, attached to the 800th Brigade out of Tennessee. I believe there was a unit from Nevada in your camp, also. Another nearby town was Al Wannan. I was there to assist in building the camps, and tearing them down at the end. Unfortunately, I have not yet received a diagnosis of any kind through all of these years. I wouldn't get into a list of symptoms here....would take too long! However, you may feel free to e-mail me anytime. I flew with the medivac crew to pick up the wounded POWs also. It is a small world and we may have all actually met somewhere down the line. Also, feel free to add me to any buddy list. I have MSN, yahoo, and aol instant messenger. My screen name is ttopid on all but aol. On aol, it is ttopid13.

I have DX with PTSD,FMS/CDF,I have very bad headaches and I'am currenty being treated by the VA hositpal in Columbia Missouri. They also DX with the Persion Gulf syndrone. Started having my problems back in 93 but did'nt thing anything of it. Then it hit me relly hard could'nt get along with anyone had to get out of the Army because of that, there are a couple guys on a different page that have been DX with MS and Parkinson. We all got to stick it out and not give up, call your congress rep conserning your claims. They lost my medical records in between Ft Jackson and St.Louis.
