okay, so my four year old has been running a fever in the 103 range for almost a week (tomorrow makes a week). she's also had a slightly runny nose and a cough. she doesn't have any aches or pains, her throat doesn't hurt, she is perfectly alert and awake, and unless it's naptime or bedtime and she's tired anyway, she's mostly just bouncing off the walls like her normal self! she's crankier and more sensitive than usual, but that's about it. she saw the doctor on monday and he said most viruses take 5-7 days to run their course, occasionally longer, and that there's nothing to worry about. WELL, i mostly believe him, but she doesn't usually hang on to a fever this high for this long!

i'm not worried about the fever. we're just letting it run it's course and giving medicine when it seems to really bother her.

my question is just if anyone else has gone through this, and if i should be concerned about it being anything else? i think i'm a little extra paranoid because i'm pregnant and my hormones are a little out of whack! plus the never ending illness is making my daughter extra whiny and my hormones can't handle the constant whining!!! AND we're stuck in the house all day every day and i think we're all just a little bored out of our heads!!! :dizzy:

I would try to be more patient for just a little longer. My daughter was just sick for the first time in her life a few weeks ago. She had a fever that was off an on for a few days. She had more congestion than your daughter. The fever is the bodies way of fighting the infection. Did your doctor give you medications? It takes time for the body to fight. You can help her by giving her lavendar or eucalyptus oil baths. Eucalyptus or bergamot essential oils are naturally antibacterial and antifungal. Her skin will absorb these oils in a bath or from a humdifier and soak into her bloodstream and help fight the sickness. I bought my oils at The Body Shop at the mall. I hope that helps. I know I was worried and getting frusterated, but it took a good week to a week and a half for the sickness to subside.

Hmm...sorry to hear she is still feeling bad. A week of a high fever does seem like a lot. I agree with the above poster that maybe something was missed? I know the doctor said a virus, but did he/she mean the flu? Of course, the flu is viral so maybe this is normal.

How is your DD eating?

Keep up with fluids and be sure she gets plenty of rest. Poor thing!
