I wear contact lenses (soft, toric) and the pair I have I got in June of 2007. They have been OK up unti la month ago when I was out of town in a colder drier climate. My eyes started tearing up and I thought at first that it was a reaction to sleep deprivation or I had got makeup in my eyes.

Over the course of a few days I was wiping the corners of my eyes several times a day, and they felt slightly sticky.

within a week or two I had to take out my contacts as soon as I got home from work because my eyes felt sticky and tired, like they were bugging out of my sockets. It felt better to have my contacts out, but when I went to sleep at night my eyes felt dry even with my eyes closed. I have tried regular saline eye drops with my contacts in, which doesn't help. I tried Visine drops with my contacts out, which sometimes stings, but doesn't really solve the problem, either.

In addition, I think there's some sort of drainage going on because I have had sores in my right nostril and onthe right side of my throat when I swallow. This is driving me nuts!

A similar thing happened to me back in 1995 - it came on very suddenly and didn't go away until I bought a new pair of contact lenses. Since my contact lenses cost $200 a pair and these are only 6 months old I don't want to go that far, yet. I thought maybe it's some kind of allergies, but why would it persist over climate changes and time? My other thought is it might be some sort of virus or bacterial infection, but I am hoping someone might have some insight that would help!

Thanks.

Unfortunately you may have to replace your lenses. I would try an ezymatic cleaner. Also if you are experiencing alot of discharge or mattering you may have developed an eye infection so you will need to see your doctor.

thanks, I will try the enzymatic cleaner. I also think my new eye makeup remover may be to blame. I changed brands right about the time I started having these problems, so I plan on switching back to my old one and see how that works.
