I'm nearly 3 weeks into VN and have been progressing pretty well until I got my period yesterday. I normally have a "behind the eye" headache prior to my cycle starting, but this time I got a nasty migraine after I started bleeding and my head fog, and feeling of unbalance has significantly worsened. Does this happen to any you ladies out there suffering from labs or VN? I'm hoping its a temporary thing and I'll go back to my usualPITA but less annoying H/A when I get my period.

Yes, the migraine during period is due to a low estrogen level, which occurs abruptly at you period and also during ovulation. See my post titled dizziness = low estradiol. You may need some supplemental estradiol to raise your levels.

I noticed your post on low estrogen and siad..."yes, that could be me". At nearly age 47 and still on the pill I guess my hormones could be all over the place! I'm glad I ready your post-I'll mention it to my GYN. Today, my 'heavy head' is back along with waves of heat-does sound hormonal, doesn't it.
Yes, the migraine during period is due to a low estrogen level
Noone knows whether its low levels of estrogen, high levels of estrogen, levels of estrogen relative to levels of other hormones, or other hormones altogether. It is likely to be a very complex permutation of the above.
There is a recent article out from a neurotology/genetics clinic where a mutation in the progesterone receptor has been found to be strongly associated with migraine-associated vertigo.
i have a book called .
what your doctor may not tell you about the perimenopause ,,
it says it can start as early as 35 years old and some women start to get
menstrual migraines caused by a lack of progesterone, then it goes onto say , if you use a progesterone cream daily 2 weeks before your period it will stop them happening ............also that it takes up to 3 months to work.
So I have been using the progeterone cream for the past 2 months and my last period for the first time in a year , i had NO headache at all :D,
If it happens again this month then i will know for sure it was the progesterone cream.

I deal with MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo), and my symptoms increase the week that my cycle is coming on. My symptoms include headache and imbalance, among others. Once I break blood, my symptoms become more tolerable, although I have my symptoms every day on some level.

I have MAV also and I feel my symptoms are worse during the cycle. I feel really dizzy during it and I get really bad migraines:( I have no idea what to do about that, nothing really seems to help it get better....only waiting for the cycle to be over lol. I also seem to feel really depressed during it as well. I seem to want to be alone too. It's not a great time to be around me:( I hate MAV

Hi there,
I have MAV too:( And I am pregnant now (seven months) My symptoms is getting worse day by day. I read the article about progesteron level and MAV. I believe that high progesteron and estrogen level during pregnancy are making my symtoms bad. Now dizziness, true vertigo, silent headache and rocking motion is killing me!! I hate MAV too. After pregnancy I will try flunarizine and lexapro again. But now the only thing I can do is just waiting!!!
These are very dark days for me. Almost every day I am crying and asking why me:(
