Hi
Am 73 yrs have raised PSA but internal shows no bumps but slightly enlarged Prostate. No Problems with Flow.
My query is Doc says he wants to do biopsy to check but thinks it will be benign
and even if it shows there could be cancer they will probably not treat it.
So whats the point in having the Biopsy. With all the complications of infection etc. Also I take Warfarin for AF after double by pass, so this will mean stopping taking this for 4 days with the added risk of a stroke.
I really am in a qaundry because if they think they are not going to do anything should I put myself under all this pressure.
Your advice and thoughts appreciated.

Other than providing your Doc with an excuse to make an easy few bucks for himself, not to mention the stress, pain and inconvenience you'll have to endure.
I agree with you...

You didn't say what your PSA trends have been- I think it's difficult to get even the opinions of we amateurs without that. If it's increased at a sufficient rate to warrant a biopsy, maybe you should get one. As to the complications and risks for the time you're off the medication, I cannot comment.
There are plenty of men who get radiation treatments at your age- don't know why there is a presumed assumption that no treatments are needed.
(I just completed minimally invasive proton therapy.)

Forgive me if I might have misunderstood your post...
I didn't read anything in your post, implied or otherwise, about you being outraged that you Doc "will probably not treat it." I didn't read anything in your post that suggested getting another opinion or going to another urologist to seek treatments like radiation therapy or chemo therapy or proton therapy or any other type of treatment...
That certainly indicates to me that you have accepted the fact that you will not be treated for prostate cancer under any circumstances.
So, I reiterate...

Are you assuming they won't treat it? Or did your doctor say that? Did you ask him the question "why the biopsy" then? That's the appropriate place, especially given other medical conditions.

When I drink, I usually drink to get loaded. I wonder if excessive drinking can cause your PSA reading to rise. Anyone have that experience?:jester:

As noted in another post, some key details are missing from what you have written, particularly the PSA result and any information about a trend. Specifically, what results did you have from your last two PSAs, and what were the dates, unless this one was your first. Deferring a biopsy can be a reasonable course, but can you give us that added information?

Apologies for delay
Thank you all for taking time to reply and you have given me much to think about.
The urologist still wants to do the biopsy because of the PSA.
