I just moved to North Carolina from Northern California and I started getting horrible hives all over my body, sore throat, bumps on tongue and itchy welts under hair on scalp. Just horrible and very upsetting. With antihistamines and steroids the symptoms are greatly improving but how does one pinpoint and rid their home of these allergens? Never had this before. The ONLY thing that has changed in the past couple of weeks is the season. All the leaves fell then we had only just enough sprinkly rain to stir up leaf mold so I am thinking that has GOT to be it. But living in the middle of a forest I feel doomed. I wish folks who have gotten better would check in on these boards and give encouragement. I know I never check in unless I am seeking help for a current problem. It makes me want to go back and check in with the people who are suffering from things I have gotten through successfully. If anyone has beaten allergies from moving cross country I would love to hear success stories including how you did it and how long it took.
Just want to add my hives broke out 2 days before the first normal period I'd had in 3 months. My doc took blood when I was worried about my missing periods and found out I have FSH trying to stimulate ovulation. FSH is a hormone you get in Peri menopause as well as menopause. I am 46. Maybe these darn hormonal changes are stimulating histamine production as well???

So I finally made it to the allergist who took one look at me and said DRUG ALLERGY. Never had an allergic reaction in all my 46 years until now. She said I have probably DEVELOPED an allergy to aspirin. She had the same thing happen to her, same symptoms. I have felt a ton better since I switched to Tylenol. Remember: aspirin is in things like over the counter antacids and cough medicines and pain relievers.Other common drug allergies include Pain Killers, Anti-convulsants (like Neurontin) and Antibiotics. My allergist said that it is more likely to develop an allergy to aspirin and pain killers than anything though. I thought I was allergic to leaf mold and was about to put my house on the market. Thank god I went to an allergist- there is something to be said for going to specialists. My general practitioner missed the diagnosis.
Just wanted to add that the night before I went in for my allergy test that I had to go to the ER because my symptoms were horrible due to not being able to take antihistamines. They gave me an Epi-pen to jab myself with if my throat started swelling up in the night. These allergies are nothing to mess around with - you can asphyxiate! At the worst I felt like I had been beaten up - welts/hives all over my body & sore swollen throat/tongue, chest pains ITCHY PALMS - SWOLLEN EYES!!. I wonder if hormones have any bearing on suddenly developing allergies because I also just entered into peri-menopause. Thanks for all the postings, it’s nice to know I’m not alone!

ASpirin allergy is very common..and allergies can just start up when you've never had them before...hormonal changes not withstanding! It is always best to determine exactly what allergie you have before embarking on something as dramatic as selling your home. Whose to say the next house won't have the same issues and you won't know till you stay in it a while. This should be a lesson to everyone to see a specialist if allergies start up all of a a sudden and simple OTC antihistamines do not take care of it. You are correct - you could die form some reactions. Glad you are improving....
